Interdisciplinary Learning is another way for ACS Learners to be more collaborative, responsible, and self-directed global citizens, and gives us intentional opportunities to embed and reflect on the growth of the ACS Core Values (courage, compassion, curiosity, and integrity). Interdisciplinary “relates directly to students’ own experiences, assets, and ideas, and allows students to identify global concepts that cut across disciplines and apply those concepts in inventive ways, and leaves students prepared to gain a deeper understanding of concepts and ideas in a way that is essential to thriving in the future world that we cannot accurately predict” (Maine Dept. of Education, 2024).
Consistent with many high performing international private schools and public schools in the United States, ACS uses the Common Core Standards in English Language Arts, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and C3 Framework for Social Studies Standards as the baseline learning objectives for K-10 instruction.
We base our instructional expectations on the Common Core Standards Standards.
